Friday morning the Year 8’s Farewell assembly took place in the hall of Glen Taylor School. Variety of activites occurred during the assembly. Activities such as, special awards, pacifica pearls etc. The activity that stood out to me the most was the pacifica pearls. The fact that they were able to assemble such a performace in just the time period of 2 days amazed me.
Summer Learning Journey: Kick Start
Kick Start, Summer learning journey activity this week was based on your own type of hero youll like to see in action. This activity helped me to open my mind to the real world. To discover more about other capable heros. Creating these heros and villians were an interesting factor to make, even with the help that my buddy lolohea gave me.
Reviewing Math Strategies
Monday morning. Room 11 were working on maths. Me and my fellow peers, were reviewing our algorithm on multiplication. We were problem solving many stage 8 equations that were on point very interesting. We manage to solve all of these equations and met deadlines to our task.
Kawa of Care
On friday Team Tui had an activity due to our chromebooks not being tooken care off well enough. This activity was called Kawa of Care. It was an activity to encourage all young kids to take better care of their own chromebooks.
TeamTui Probability Games
Monday morning Teamtui decided to collab as a team while doing maths. After the Monday morning meeting, Teamtui decided to stay back while other classes were leaving the hall. Teamtui got split into 3 groups of 20 or so and had a warm up game called blocko. The point of the game was to spread 11 blocks equally into 12 sections of the page. Then a adult or teacher rolls a dice, whatever number it lands on thats one block taken from that row. After all the excitment and warmups we had 3 different maths games. One game was called bottle flip another was called greedy pig and the last game was called flip a card, we also had a tally chart for each activity and each group went to each different rotation. By the end of the timer the groups would swap activies and move on. At the end of this math period i’ve enjoyed every second and every moment I spent challenging myself.
L4 Statistics – Graphs
Tuesday morning Team Tui were working on Maths. My group were dedicated to be with our math teacher in the first rotation. We sat down as a group and were learning about different types of graphs and how they connect. We had multiple questions to answer, they included the graphs to help us figure out the answer for each question given. Today I learnt more and more different types of math graphs.
Meaning of Inferencing
Today we had Monday must do tasks. One of those specific tasks included us watching a video based off of the meaning of Inferencing. The meaning of Inferencing is something to figure out using clues and evidence in your text or what your reading and taking a guess whether its right or wrong. An example of an inference is, lets say its nearly your birthday and you want a puppy for your birthday gift. But you know there is no way she will even consider gifting one. But one day for shopping your mom makes a shopping list full of things that dogs need or play with, Items such as tennis balls, chew toys, rope, dog food, etc. Then you realise you are getting a dog for your birthday based off the clues and evidence you’ve recieved in the shopping, that is inferencing.
IXL Maths
What a start to term 4, Team Tui decided to start the term off with Maths. My Math group was assigned to complete work on IXL. Our IXL was situated in year 7 EE.1/EE.2 it was based off of Interpret Pictographs. My mind was really rusty as the equations got more and more difficult. My mind was still stuck in the bright holidays, but I managed to get it done in the end.
Cybersmart – Patterns
Cybersmart for week 8 was a pattern design task. The point of this task was to complete four patterns that fit into this box with four sections. A thing I noticed was these patterns were based off Tongan patterns due to Tongan Language Week. I started off creating a simple pattern well known in the Tongan culture, the rest was off my imagination.
Figurative Language – Hyperbole
Week 5 on a friday morning Room 11 worked on a piece of writing that involves figurative language. This specific task was based on an example of a hyperbole. If you don’t know whar a hyperbole is I will explain. A hyperbole is an exaggeration that cant possibly be true. This task included answering what is the exaggeration in the sentence. For an example “This task took forever” this cant be possible due to our lifespan. We would have to do this task from start to end of our lives. This tasked helped me more to understand more about what a hyperbole is and the correct way of prounouncing it.
